You may remember us bragging about DS during our Julie Klaasmeyer interview… well we are back to brag some more… cuz we are in PROP HEAVEN!

Thanks to DS for sending me out a box of goodies to test drive… and each package I opened was cuter than the next!
I used their tile back grounds (8 of them, and simply taped them together in back, then hung on my stand with clips)
lots of ruffled bloomers, with matching hats… and my lil favorite, the SOCK MONKEY cocoon set.. LURVE IT!

And what did I think about playing w/the goodies from DS???  DROOLING doesnt even cut it! haha

My favorite part (aside from the total cuteness).. the pieces of clothing were versatile… I used them on ages from 6mos all the way to 2.5yrs!

So head on over… take a peek through their ENORMOUS plethora of goodies..
and come back to let us know what you think…. just for the FUN OF IT!

Blankets as Backdrops

Hey prop junkies!

It’s Laurie with a little tip from my studio.

So, I met with my accountant today and she is encouraging me to build a “war chest” for my business….in other words, I need to start saving more money and stop spending.  That means, I will have to be more creative and frugal in my neverending studio prop and backdrop search.  I love having different backdrop options at the studio, especially during the cold winter months when shooting outside isn’t an option.  The problem is, I could spend thousands of dollars on canvas or muslin backdrops and the trendy paper backdrops are over $100 a piece with shipping.   Here is a great little idea that produces fantastic results without spending a bunch of money…..patterned blankets as backdrops.  All of the backdrops you see in this post are nothing more than blankets that I found at places such as Kohl’s, Target, or Homegoods.  None of them cost more than $30 (the pink damask one was a whopping $15) and I have used all of them over and over.  Here they are in action:

A great time to look for fun, colorful blankets is during the back to school season.  The big retailers always have bright dorm room bedding and accessories on display and they are usually offered at a discount.  You can also find fun blankets online. I LOVE overstock.com, especially because shipping is always so cheap.  Here is a cute peace sign blanket that would be great for a pre-teen shoot: peace sign microluxe throw.  Love the different color options in this cheetah blanket and this is the silver/blue damask blanket I have.  I got mine at Homegoods but they didn’t have the black and white or the pink which I think I just might have to order…..shhhh don’t tell my accountant :)

Petite Tuques | Feature, Giveaway AND Discounts!

Petite Tuques is a colorful little shop, with knit items ranging from newborn (like darling lil infant hats!) , to adult (super cute Bella Mittens)!
Any you look at it.. Petite Tuques is a shop you’re gonna want to check out!

I had to fun’tastic time of trying out one of their has, the “Lacey Cable Newborn Hat”…. and I was happily impressed!
The knit quality is perfectly sweet (loved the lil patterns throughout), and the colors… well that was my favorite part of it!

I loved that the color of this hat was original… not your basic “pastel pinks” and such.

It was able to give my photo more of an antique feel, and add to the originality!
Not to mention…. it matched my fringie from Crickets Creations… YAY!

What a fabulous combo in deed.
